Get to know more about her journey, her inspirations, and what she loves most about cooking at Country Willows.
A Lifelong Passion for Cooking
Andrea's love for cooking began at an early age. "Since I was a child, I was happy to be in the kitchen helping my mom or grandma," she shared. This early exposure not only ignited her culinary spark but also nurtured a deep appreciation for customer service, a quality that continues to shine through in her work today.
From Guatemala to Ashland: A Culinary Journey
Andrea's formal culinary journey began when she pursued a degree in Hospitality Management, focusing on restaurants and hotels. In 2002, she embarked on her professional career as an apprentice at the prestigious Hilton Guatemala City, known for its Italian restaurant nestled in a stunning Spanish colonial building. She dedicated six years to honing her skills there, gaining invaluable experience.
Her journey continued in the charming town of La Antigua, Guatemala, where she served as a sous chef under renowned French chef Jean Francois Desmoilsa at Tartines. Over the years, Andrea has built an impressive resume that includes roles such as:
-
Sous Chef at Hither, where she specialized as a breakfast cook and baker
-
Sous Chef at Ashland Creek Inn
-
Pastry Chef at La Bricola
-
Cook for UC Davis's Farm to Fork program, preparing wholesome meals for students
Culinary Expertise and Formal Training
Andrea's formal education in Guatemala laid the foundation for her culinary prowess, but her commitment to learning has never stopped. She has pursued additional certifications in coffee barista training, wine pairing, and dining etiquette, constantly evolving her skills to create memorable dining experiences.
