Pedro has always had a natural connection to plants, a passion that started in childhood when he spent countless hours in the garden with his grandmother and mother. This early exposure to the rhythms of nature laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong dedication to landscaping and garden design.
After moving to Hawaii from 1999 to 2001, Pedro deepened his understanding of sustainable gardening by studying Permaculture Design on The Big Island. He earned his Certificate of Permaculture Design from La’akea Permaculture Gardens, equipping him with a comprehensive approach to creating environmentally friendly landscapes.
In 2002, Pedro took his knowledge and skills to Denver, Colorado, where he launched his first landscape and garden design business. His approach, rooted in permaculture principles, quickly gained traction. By 2005, he had expanded his business to Portland, Oregon, where his work continued to thrive in a community that valued sustainability as much as he did.
Pedro’s career saw a new chapter in 2007 when he became the Head Groundskeeper for a lighting retailer in St. Louis, Missouri. Overseeing the landscaping for eight showroom locations, Pedro honed his skills in large-scale landscape management.
Since 2016, Pedro has been managing both residential and agricultural properties, continuing to apply the principles that have guided his career for over 25 years.
At Country Willows, Pedro’s expertise is evident in the beautifully maintained landscapes that guests enjoy. His careful attention to detail and commitment to sustainable practices create an inviting and serene environment. But Pedro’s work doesn’t stop there. He also takes care of the landscaping at Country Willows’ sister property, The Palm Motel and Cottages, ensuring that both locations benefit from his extensive experience and passion for creating beautiful, natural spaces.
Throughout all of this, Pedro’s son, Koa, has been by his side. From the time Koa could walk and talk, he has been involved in the garden, learning the craft directly from his father. Whether they’re planting new gardens or maintaining established landscapes, Pedro and Koa work together as a team, blending years of experience with fresh energy.
“For as long as I can remember I’ve had a passion for gardening. I absolutely love it, and just like a garden, I have nurtured that passion with Koa. We make a pretty incredible team,” says Pedro.
